Many other organizations and groups offer information, education, and support to people interested in adoption.  Here is our list of such groups:

  • Adoptee Rights - The Adoptee Rights Web Site for California and Beyond
     

  • Adoptee's Liberty Movement Associationi (ALMA) - "Celebrating more than a Quarter-of-a-Century of Adoption Reunion and Reform, 1971 - 2007"
     
  • American Adoption Congress - "The American Adoption Congress is composed of individuals, families and organizations committed to adoption reform. We represent all those whose lives are touched by adoption .Through education and advocacy, we promote honesty, openness and respect for family connections in adoption, foster care and assisted reproduction."
     
  • Bastard Nation - "Bastard Nation advocates for the civil and human rights of adult citizens who were adopted as children." This group offers a free newsletter; click on a link at the bottom right of their home page.
     
  • BirthMom Buds - "BirthMom Buds is a not-for-profit organization and website founded by birthmothers for birthmothers and pregnant women considering adoption.  We provide support, encouragement, and friendship through our many services."
     

  • Concerned United Birthparents (CUB) - "CUB is a national organization serving those touched by adoption and others who are concerned about  adoption issues."
     
  • Coopadopt.com - "Cooperative Adoption Consulting was established by Ellen Roseman over twenty five years ago to assist prospective adoptive parents in the open adoption process. Independent and agency adoptions are facilitated in a supportive nurturing and educational atmosphere. Cooperative Adoption Consultation respects and welcomes working with all family types."  This group sponsors a support and education group for adoptive parents ( pre and post), those in the adoption triad, social workers, adoption lawyers, and anyone in the adoption industry.
     
  • Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute - "Our Mission: To improve the quality of information about adoption, to enhance the understanding and perception of adoption, and to advance adoption policy and practice."  This group offers a free newsletter.
     
  • Filipino Adoptees Network - "The Filipino Adoptees Network (F.A.N.) is a global organization dedicated to supporting, educating and promoting cultural awareness on adoption issues and preserving Filipino heritage."
     
  • Holt International - "Holt International pioneered intercountry adoption in the 1950s"
     
  • Melissa Holub, Ph.D. - Clinical Psychologist in the East Bay, founder and director of "Adoption Insight," offering adoption-related training and consultation for professionals and triad members in the Bay Area.  510-658-7119.
     
  • Independent Search Consultants - "We specialize in locating pieces to the puzzle, in reuniting those separated by adoption, divorce, or other family misfortunes."
     
  • ISSR - International Soundex Reunion Registry - One of the oldest, largest, and best free registries. A system for matching persons who desire contact with their next-of-kin by birth.
     
  • Nancy Verrier - Nancy is the author of adoption bestsellers "The Primal Wound," and "Coming Home To Self." Her speaking engagements are listed on her site, as well as other relevant information for triad members.
     
  • O.A.S.I.S - Organization for Adoptees Search and Individual Support
     
  • Our Family Coalition - San Francisco based, with over 500 member families, "Our Family Coalition is one of the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organizations in the nation. Started in 1994 as a group for parents with infants."
     
  • RegDay - RegDay is an annual event to increase public awareness of the International Soundex Reunion Registry; a free humanitarian service better known as ISRR.
     
  • RESOLVE Northern California - "RESOLVE provides compassionate, timely, and informed assistance to people experiencing the infertility crisis or who have had difficulty building their families." It also sponsors adoption support groups.
     
  • Second Chance Mother - "Reunion with the son I lost to adoption landed me on an emotional roller coaster ride that might never end.  But along the way, I made peace with the past and rediscovered the self I had left behind."  Denise Roessle, birth mother, writes a blog about her experiences.
     
  • The Search Guru - Colleen Buckner specializes in California adoptions. She works on a "no find no fee" basis.
     
  • Tina's Adoption Site - Fair amount of helpful information for searchers and support groups in California. While much of the contact information seems out-of-date, the groups still exist and can be googled.l
